Every few years a new diet comes along and competes for the prize of gaining followers. Atkins, Zone, Gluten-free, South Beach, Sugar Busters, Detox, Low fat, low carb, Keto, Paleo; it's hard to figure out what works and whether it's a good diet for us. Believe it or not, the answer is much less complicated. The overwhelming evidence is that even though each of those diets can be very effective and useful for weight loss, the overall consensus favors the Mediterranean Diet. Unlike the other diets, the Mediterranean Diet isn't a quick fix solution for weight loss; it's more of a long-term plan for health. The other diets can be great for short-term, more rapid weight loss, but if we want a diet we can eat our entire life that's nutritious, healthful, and shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, and more, then the Mediterranean style of eating is the answer.
